10 tips for children's healthy mind
1. Healthy Communication
Having a healthy communicating relationship does not happen overnight. This should be instilled when kids are young. Forget work and give them undivided attention at least once a week. Be sure to ask them questions. Communication keeps children emotionally sound and stress-free.
2. Be a good listener
Always remember to listen. Don't force your thoughts and beliefs on your child. Gently give your point of view and allow him to think about it.
3. Make it a positive environment
Every child needs love and security. Be sure not to put your child in a negative environment, as it will only bring about low self-esteem. They need to be geared up with confidence and lots of it. Always encourage them as it provides strength to face the world with a favourable outlook.
4. Be expressive
Don't hold back being expressive. Go ahead and shower your child with hugs and kisses. It really does not matter how old they are. This little gesture will strengthen the bond between the both of you and will reflect positively in their personality.
5. Quality time is important
The recipe to getting to know your child well is to spend one-on-one quality time with him or her. You'll discover much needed insight on their growing personality, changing moods and temperaments.
6. Develop a good practise
In order to spend time, talk and bond, develop a ritual early to keep you and them on track. Read to them before bedtime and they are most likely to develop a love for books, which will improve their lives.
7. Make their presence known in your life
Don't assume they are too young to help you. Take every opportunity to clinch their presence in your life. Get them to pick out clothes for you when shopping. It may not be what you like, but when he/she sees you wearing it, you'll notice a huge smile on their face.
8. Step into their world
Convince them that there is nothing wrong with their world. Be part of their lives without being too intrusive. Find ways to ask questions that don't make them inclined to hide things, instead that allows them to express freely their thoughts.
9. Stick together as a family
Remember, your actions leave an impression in their mind and soul. It's best not to have arguments around them as it leaves them feeling afraid. Their own family should not cause them to feel any form of insecurity.
10. Observe your child's behaviour
As parents, the best we can do for our child is to observe their behaviour. Believe it or not, your child may be carrying more pressure on his shoulders than he can actually manage. This might stem from issues such as fitting in with friends at school, scoring good results etc. And always keep in mind, what may work for once child, may not work for the other.
