Goodness of Milk
Milk: a major source of dietary nutrients
Every calorie of milk, by nature, contains many essential nutrients, which make milk extremely nutritious. Scientists have discovered more than 400 components in milk that are important for the energy provision, growth, development, protection and maintenance of the human body. Two to three portions of dairy per day provide important nutrients such as protein, fats, lactose, vitamins and minerals.
Nutrients
Every nutrient plays its own specific role in metabolism/nutrition.
Proteins deliver energy and are vital for building and maintaining tissues such as muscles, transporting substances and oxygen in the blood, and the formation of antibodies and bones.
Fat delivers energy, ensures isolation in the skin and plays a role in hormone production. Milk fat also contains soluble vitamins A and D.
Other important water-soluble vitamins in milk are B1 (for carbohydrate and energy combustion, B2 (for energy metabolism and a healthy skin) B6 (necessary for the nervous system, the formation of red blood cells and the immune system), B11 (folic acid) is necessary for the immune system and the production of blood and B12 (needed for the formation of red blood cells, the immune system, cell division and energy metabolism).
When it comes to the minerals: calcium plays a major role in building bones and teeth, muscle function, digestion, energy metabolism and blood clotting; Phosphorous is necessary for bones and teeth, cell membranes and energy metabolism; Zink plays an important role in the immune system, a maintains bones, sight and the brain and is involved in the memory function.
This is how milk provides a good balance between nutrition and energy for all ages. What’s more, drinking milk is a good way to take in sufficient fluid, since milk consists largely of water.
Milk for all ages
Milk’s role for the human body can differ in each phase of life. This also depends on people’s living conditions and the composition of their overall diet. For children, milk is a suitable drink because they are still growing. Milk contains many of the building blocks and energy to stimulate their growth.
Growing Up Milk
Milk consists largely of water. Milk powder is milk from which this water has been extracted. The powder does however contain all the important nutrients from milk. All you need to do to reconstitute the milk is to add water to the milk powder.
For generations, Friso has been proud to bring parents high quality nutrition for their young children through its Growing Up Milk formulas. We are constantly guided by our international and local research & development efforts, to continue developing breakthrough innovations that provide the best dairy nutrition for our future generation.

Different types of sugars and the role of sugar in Growing Up Milk
Sugars like natural sugar and natural added sugar are types of Carbohydrates. They are important because Carbohydrates are a main source of energy to ensure the healthy growth & development of the body and brain of growing up children.
Natural sugar called lactose can be found in milk while natural added sugar comes from plants (described as added sugar because it’s not found naturally in milk). In terms of calories, there is no difference between the two. In fact, when you take sugar naturally found in milk (lactose), it also counts as part of your total sugar consumption.
Friso Growing Up Milk is nutritionally designed using a combination of naturally present sugars like lactose, and added natural sugars.
Based on years of research we have found that Malaysian children can digest milk best if we respect the natural ratio of lactose in milk. From our research, we found that increasing lactose to a level that is not naturally found in milk can cause digestive problems like diarrhoea and bloating (due to too much gas).
Therefore optimally balanced types of sugars found in our Friso Growing Up Milk formula will make the milk easily digestible for children, while providing the energy that they need. At Friso, we believe that milk brings your children essential nutrients; therefore we find it of utmost importance that many Malaysian children can enjoy the benefits of milk.
Friso Growing Up Milk formula is developed in line with local legislation and well within the Malaysian Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) 2005 and WHO (2003) recommendation.
